A run on the golf ball!

 Ballycastle Golf course

At Bushmills Inn they understand the golfing mentality and look after golfers with super food and a relaxed atmosphere in the quirky Gas Bar where you can at least dream that you did sink that ‘gimie’ two foot putt!

Where else but Royal Portrush Golf Course in the summer?  With a fair chance of good weather and less rain it means there is a run on the ball when you play golf.  Some golfers (i.e. most) need that little extra run during the summer months.  If you have ever hit a bad golf shot and are horrified to see it come to rest a few feet away you will be overjoyed to play a Links course such as Royal Portrush.  Here there are tightly trimmed fairways resting on sandy soil so even a poor shot will scoot off into the distance.  It is consistently listed in the Top 100 in the World; this year it is ranked No. 27 with Golf Digest the ‘Bible’ for golfers.  Royal Portrush Golf (2016)Just watch out for the notorious Calamity Hole, a Par 3 where many a golfer has come to grief.   This hole is followed by another one called ‘Purgatory’ so you can just guess what that means to amateurs.  No wonder this championship course is considered a ‘must play’ course for the serious and not so serious players.  It will be a really good walk – even if your golf doesn’t live up to your expectations!

Your best bet though is to go for broke and book a five day break.  By far and away the best place to stay for golfers is the friendly and laid back Bushmills Inn, which is a stone’s throw from Royal Portrush.  Also nearby are PortstewartCastlerock and Ballycastle Golf Club which are all well worthwhile playing.
