High Summer Jinks – Renvyle House Hotel
With all this summer sun and Ireland now boasting a new shade of wheat instead of the usual green it’s time to play outside. Where better to head off to than Renvyle House Hotel, one of my favourite places to go to at this time of the year. You won’t have a problem when you wake up of scratching around for something to do because here they have everything you could think of either on the grounds or nearby.
We have just finished watching a remarkable Wimbledon with record breaking games and the rackets are well dusted off as they have two all weather courts at Renvyle. If you fancy yourself as a tennis pro you can bring your own racket. For the less active they have that Machiavellian game of croquet where brains rather than brawn count. And yes there is the outdoor swimming pool and this year it is hot enough to swim without getting goose pimples. Perhaps the losers of the croquet game should be permitted to win the odd game of lawn bowls; yet another traditional summer treat to enjoy at Renvyle House Hotel. My personal suggestion is to make sure to be sipping Pimms whilst playing bowls and they make a super Pimms cocktail at Renvyle House.
It goes without saying that some therapeutic sea swimming in the adjacent Atlantic Ocean is right up there as one of the best activities; being literally just a stone’s throw from the hotel. No need to pack up the boot of the car – bliss.
Renvyle House Hotel at this time of the year is literally humming with activity and I should also mention that it is a great place for foodies. The dining room (The Roisin Dubh) is delightful with its herringbone parquet floor. Their head chef Tim O’Sullivan just keeps on winning awards for his cooking.
I would need another chapter to write about all the things that you can do locally so best to make this a surprise for when you get there. So head west my friends and chill out and have fun.
