Summer in the South at Longueville House
Summer in the South at Longueville House
Did you know that Mallow is known as the ‘Crossroads’ of the province of Munster?
Did you know that Longueville House is close to Mallow, Co. Cork and the ideal base for heritage trails and visiting beautiful gardens that are open to the public? Some of the best gardens in Ireland are located in Cork such as Anne’s Grove in Ballyhimock, a short drive from Longueville. A slightly longer drive but well worth the trip is a visit to Fota House, Aboretum and Gardens located just outside Cork city in Carrigtwohill. These gardens are now in their full blaze of summer glory. Also in this vicinity are the Lakemount Gardens, a divine botanical paradise.
Did you know that Mallow Castle is one of the country’s most interesting heritage sites where 33 acres host wonderful parkland and gardens and three ruins; a 13th century castle; a 16th century Fortified House and a 19th century Mansion.
Did you know that we are right in the middle of the fishing season and that Longueville House Fishery offers private fishing on their own River Beats for over 1 ½ miles within the Longueville Estate on the River Blackwater. Note that there has been a good run of salmon and grilse over the past number of years on the River Blackwater.Did you know that experts recommend smaller baits and flies for summer fishing so I am wondering if I should give my own precious ‘Beltra Badger’ a maiden outing!
Did you know that Longueville House distil brandy and cider in their own artisan distillery. You can have your own private tour (don’t forget the tasting!) if you are staying in the House.
Did you know that the Ballyhoura Mountain Bike/Hiking Trail Network is one of the largest trail network of its kind in Ireland. Longueville House provide excellent picnic baskets for those fit enough to venture forth on this more energetic form of activity (not for me!).
So it’s Summer and time to get out and about and where better to enjoy good pure air and lovely activities than Longueville House, home of the O’Callaghan family. It is a particular favourite haunt for many such as yours truly. Visit Longueville House for booking details.
